  • Ottawa Montessori School is a not-for-profit corporation serving families of all religions, creeds and nationalities. The Board is comprised of nine voting Directors comprised of five Parent Directors and four External Directors and also includes two non-voting members - a Staff Participant and our School Director, ex officio.

Parent Directors bring their passion and a desire to see their child's school evolve with the children.

External Directors bring specialized skills, knowledge and objectivity to the board.

The School Director and the Staff Participant bring corporate history and their deep understanding of Montessori principles and how they impact OMS and the students.

Directors of the Board are elected for three years terms. The positions are staggered such that one third of the Board is elected each year. The Executive Officers of the Board, (i.e. President, Vice President and Corporate Secretary) are elected by the Directors every year.

The Board operates under the Carver or Policy governance model. In this model, the Board sets policies for the operation of the school, hires a School Director to implement these policies, and monitors the operation of the school through these policies. The Board is also active in creating strategic plans for the school.

If you are interested in joining the Board next year please contact the Nominating Committee for more information.

The OMS Parent Community Association (PCA) has been established to foster community spirit across OMS. All parents or legal guardians of students of the school are members of the OMS Parent Community Association and are able to choose the executive of the PCA.

Please contact the OMS Parent Community Association if you have any questions or would like to assist in building the community spirit of OMS.

In addition to serving on the Board or being on the PCA executive, parents have many other ways to participate at Ottawa Montessori including being members of committees, volunteering in the library, gardens or fund raising ventures and chaperoning field trips for students. OMS staff work closely with parents in all these functions.
