Due to the developmental and sequential nature of the Montessori program, children are generally admitted to Ottawa Montessori School between the ages of 18 months and 4 years. Children seeking admittance to the Francophone programs are screened for their ability to understand and speak French. We do not screen children otherwise as our school is responsive to each student as an individual and our community is made up of students from many different cultures, and with differing physical, intellectual and social characteristics. We can often accommodate students who have completed other Montessori programs or, occasionally, non-Montessori students who, by their nature, would be comfortable in a Montessori program.
The first step in the Admissions process is to attend a Montessori 101 meeting to learn about Montessori education in general and Ottawa Montessori School in particular. Information packages and application forms are distributed at these meetings. You may then make arrangements to visit OMS and observe the students in their classes before making an application.
As applications are received, they are placed on a waiting list. Generally, our programs are full and, therefore, students are most often admitted in September of each year. When re-enrolment of returning students is completed at the end of January, families on the waiting list are offered admission contracts.
